1st place = UCL group or qualifying rounds?
1st place = UCL group or qualifying rounds?
Sorry, I am a bit out of touch with league rules. Last year the winner got into the UCL group automatically.
Am I right in thinking because Denmark have gone down in the UEFA coefficient, if we were to come first we would just be in the qualifying rounds of the UCL like 2nd place?
Thanks in advance.

Re: 1st place = UCL group or qualifying rounds?
Yes. If AaB wins the championship, they will be in the CHQ3 and play against a national champion from a country ranked number 13 or below on the UEFA coefficient list.
If AaB beats the opponent in CHQ3 we'll have to play the crucial CHQ4 to qualify for the group stage. Again against national champions from countries ranked 13 or below on the coefficient list.
AaB is probably not seeded in CHQ3, and certainly not in CHQ4.

Isn't anyone else annoyed by this? Will it go back to group stage next year because Esbjerg did so well?
Re: 1st place = UCL group or qualifying rounds?
The UEFA rankings from 2012/13 determine the slots in European turnaments for the domestic turnaments currently running. Denmark was 15th then and hence have two CL qualification slots this year. Next year the UEFA rankings from 2013/14 will determine the number of slots and here Denmark rank 19th, so the slots for next year's superliga will be:jimi23 skrev:Isn't anyone else annoyed by this? Champion: CL Q2
Cup Winner: EL Q2 (or EL Q3 if the EL title holder qualifies for EL)
No 2: EL Q2
No 3: EL Q2
Check this link where you can see how Denmark improved from 23rd to 12th in 5 years. Those five years were exceptional and now we are going back to "normal".
http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/plots.html
When looking at the past 20 years Danish teams have on average scored 4,2 point. This years average was 3,8 so despite Esbjerg's sucess it was not good, due to three teams getting only one point or no points at all...
I wouldn't say that the Danish league is any better than those below us in the ranking (Poland, Croatia, Scotland, Sweden, Bulgaria, Belarus, Norway and Serbia) so if we don't have some succesful years we could easily drop out of the top 25.
Re: 1st place = UCL group or qualifying rounds?
Thanks for your reply.
So just so I'm not losing my mind, FCK did go straight into the group stages for this UCL didn't they (from coming first last year)?
And to clarify if AaB come first this year do they get into the 3rd UCL qual? And 2nd place (FCM) get into the 2nd UCL qual round?
Thanks again

Yes FCK and FC North Zealand the year before went straight into the UEFA Champions League group stage. However due to poor european performances in recent years by the danish teams (Aalborg "contributed" by awful results in 2009 againts Slavija Sarajevo and last year against Georgian side Dila from Stalins birth town Gori) the danish champion and runner up are no longer directly qualified for the Champions League group stage.jimi23 skrev:Thanks for your reply.

You got it a bit wrong. The Danish champions and runner up both get into the 3rd qual round. However the runner up faces very tough opposition.
The champions get into the CL-CHQ3 qual round (possible opponents are the champions from Schwitzerland and Cyprus as well as the champions from countries ranked below Denmark (winners of 2nd CL qual round)
The danish runner up also get into the CL-NCQ3 qual round. However the runner up faces tough opposition. Possible opponents are number 3 from France, or number two from Ukraine, Russia, The Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Schwitzerland, Cyprus
I appologise for my rather bad english!
Re: 1st place = UCL group or qualifying rounds?
I wouldn't say that the past three years have been exceptionally poor. The average points of Danish teams were 3,1; 3,3 and 3,8. Note that 14 times of the past 20 years did the Danish average range between 3,1 and 4,75 so I would say 3,x is rather normal. Only 4 times did the Danish teams average higher than 4,75 and those were all in the time period between 06/07 and 10/11 resulting in exceptional good rankings in 09/10 (12th) and 10/11 (13th). Those (lucky) days are now over and Denmark will most likely return to a ranking around 20th (+/- 5). Unless we run into another poor average like the 1,5 of 04/05...frederikshavneren skrev:

Also note that with a good ranking follows a period with only a few easy qualification matches to improve the average points, and with a poor ranking comes the easy qualification matches with easy points for the average.

Re: 1st place = UCL group or qualifying rounds?
